First press conference about Belgrade Summer Festival, BELEF 07

The first press conference about Belgrade Summer Festival, BELEF 07, which will take place on the Belgrade Fortress from 23 July to 14 August, was held today in the Ceremonial Hall of the City Assembly of Belgrade. Beside numerous representatives from print and electronic media, the conference was also attended by the representatives from Secretariat of Culture of the City of Belgrade, Milena Stojićević, director of BELEF Center, the executive producer of the Festival, the artistic director of this year's BELEF Darka Radosavljević-Vasiljević and the authors of theatre and musical programs Boban Jevtić and Gordan Paunović who thoroughly set out the concept and the selection of the artistic programs for this year's Belgrade Summer Festival. The visual identity of the Festival, the work of designer Slaviša Savić inspired by the slogan “Here and there is here”, as well as the video for which the animation was done by Milan Popović, and music composed by Vladimir Marković were promoted on this occasion.

One of the most important information on the press conference was that all the open competitions given by BELEF are prolonged to Monday 16 July this year.

Antigone – best play on 13th INFANT

AntigonaTheatre play “Antigone” by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Ivana Vujić in co production with “Beton Hala Teatar” and BELEF–center, was unanimously voted as the best show of all the shows that were shown on 13th INFANT festival in Novi Sad. Jury, consisting of Katalin Ladik, actress, and theatre directors Andrej Vulfing and Jelena Bogavac concluded that the last year’s premiere was something that could be named as “the real theatre”.

We congratulate to all the members of “Antigone” show team, especially to the director of the show Ivana Vujić, whose new project “Pogled sa Kalemegdana” (View from Kalemegdan) based on the play by Vladimir Velmar–Janković, will be performed on this year’s BELEF, and we wish them to have the same success on the upcoming “Zlatni lav” (Golden Lion) festival in Umag.

We should note that Nela Antonović, the selector of this year’s INFANT, received excellent compliments for all the shows in the theatre program she chose, where, beside “Antigone”, which won the first prize, another BELEF’s co production with the Puppet Theatre “Pinokio” – the show “Max metalic” from 2004 found its place.

TU I TAMO JE OVDE - BELEF 07

BELEF 07In search for its own identity, BELEF incorporates changes and innovations every year, taking care that the quality programmes are realized in public areas, as well as opened and accessible to all the citizens of Belgrade and their guests.

This year’s BELEF 07 offers a new view in the context of closing to modern tendencies and way of work of other significant summer city cultural manifestations in the world.

First participation of the Republic of Serbia on 11th Prague Quadrennia

First participation on its own of the Republic of Serbia on 11th Prague Quadrennial brought an extraordinary success. Ana Milic and Snezana Veljkovic, students of the final year on the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, won an award on the World’s Open Competition for student’s scenery–costume works. They were awarded for the project named “Posmatranje ptica s Velikog ratnog ostrva” (Watching of the birds from the Great War Island).

The bench of Republic of Serbia was opened on Friday, 15 June at 7 pm by His Exellence Vladimir Veres, the Ambassador of The Republic of Serbia in the Czech Republic, Mrs Radmila Hrustanovic, Deputy Mayor of Belgrade and Mr Radivoje Dinulovic, national curator of the project, Mrs Gorica Mojovic, Assistant to the Mayor of Belgrade was also present, as well as Mr Branko Pavic, author of the bench, Mrs Milena Stojicevic, director of BELEF centre, Mr Milosav Marinovic, director of Yustat and numerous other guests.

BELEF Centre had a successful presentation during the whole of next day, 16 June, which had its culmination in a very contentious and noted speech, given by its director, Mrs Milena Stojicevic

Visual Identity and the Concept of BELEF 07

BELEF 07Expert comission for the choise of Visual Identity and the Concept of Belgrade summer festival – BELEF 07 campaign, which consisted of Ms Darka Radosavljevic, Artistic director of BELEF 07, Ms Ljiljana Sovic, PR manager of the Festival, Mr Vojislav Milin, Coordinator of the programme, Ms Lidija Jaksic, Marketing manager of the Festival and Mr Boban Jevtic, Author of theatre programme selection for the Festival, on the meeting held on 7 June 2007 unanimously decided that the work of Mr Slavisa Savic, the author, is the most appropriate to the character and concept of this year’s Festival that takes place under the slogan "Here and there is here".

We hereby congratulate Mr Sinisa Savic, the author whose work has been chosen as the best, and at the same time we would like to thank all the other proposers, who, with their interesting ideas competed for the choise of Visual Identity of BELEF 07.

BELEF Center at Prague Quadrennial

This year from 14 to 24 June will be held XI Prague Quadrennial, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Theatre Institute in Prague and OISTAT. This manifestation, which celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year, is the most significant event in the world devoted to scene design, theatre architecture and technology. From the beginnings of the Prague ¬Quadrennial, Yugoslavia was one of the most significant participants, and this year, The Republic Serbia will continue this tradition, first time as an independent state. Organization of this performance will be conducted by YUSTAT, in cooperation with BELEF and BITEF Festivals, with great support from Belgrade City Assembly, Secretariat of Culture and especially, "Stari grad" Municipality. National custodian of the project is Mr Radivoje Dinulovic, architect.

BELEF Centre, as a cultural institution of the city of Belgrade, nurtures international cooperation and programme exchange, which its membership in the the following associations and programmes points to: IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting), Balkan Express, Les Rencontres (Association of European Cities and Regions for Culture), as well as in the projects such as Factory (For Adriatic Cultural Transnational Organizations Residential Yards). In the sense of this, taking part in the Prague ¬Quadrennial is a great honour for us from one side, and from the other it continues programme policy of our institution.

Invitation for the show "My Homeland – Seven Dreams" to be a part of First Theatre Festival of South–East Europe in Thessaloniki programme

My Homeland – Seven DreamsLast year’s interfestival coproduction (ECCD, Delphi, Greece; BELEF and BITEF) "My Homeland – Seven Dreams" by Mr Nikita Milivojevic, author and producer, which had its Serbian premier on BELEF 06, has been invited to be a part of 1st Theatre Festival of South–East Europe in Thessaloniki, Greece. This show, made by the motives from Greek tragedies of the Theban Cycle, explored and seen through the dreams, will be available for the viewers to see on 28th and 29th June 2007 in the Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies.

"Antigone" taking part on festivals

AntigonaBertolt Brecht’s piece "Antigone" directed by Ivana Vujic, won significant awards as it is invited to take part on two very famous oncoming festivals. Last year’s coproduction between "Beton Hala Theatre" and BELEF-centre is to take part on Thirteenth INFANT Festival in Novi Sad on 26 June, as well as Eighth Chamber Theatre Festival "Zlatni lav" in Umag, Croatia. The show "Antigone" extends the tradition of BELEF’s productions taking part on the "Zlatni lav" festival, where D. Kis’s "Elektra", directed by J. Markovic in 2005 and I. Viripajev’s "Oxygen", directed by T. Mandic–Rigonat in 2006 also took part.

Results of the open competition for the concept and choosing the Artistic director of the Belgrade Summer Festival BELEF 07

Jury for the choosing of the best concept and the Artistic director of Belgrade Summer Festival BELEF 07, which consisted of Mrs Milena Dragicevic-Sesic, Mr Milosav Marinovic-Saki, Mr Gorcin Stojanovic, Ms Zaklina Kusic, Mr Vladimir Markovic, Ms Maja Uzelac and Mr Igor Brakus, on the sitting held on 25th April 2007 by the majority of votes, came to a conclusion and recommended for the Artistic director of BELEF 07 Mrs Darka Radosavljevic-Vasiljevic, author of the concept "Tu i Tamo je Ovde".

This concluds the possibility of applying for the participation at this year’s Belgrade Summer Festival, and the other nominees who took part in the open competition will be notified of a potential joining of their projects to the programme of the Festival.

Project FACTORY

The first constituting meeting of the technical-scientific council for the project FACTORY (For Adriatic Cultural Transnational Organizations Residential Yards) was held on 4th and 5th May 2007 in Lecce, Italy. This project is the continuation of the project ARCO, financed by the organization NPPA Interreg CARDS-PHARE, with a goal of connecting Italian regions with the countries of the West Balkans. Chairman of the meeting was Mr Piacentino Ciccarese, director og Puglia Region, with the participation of Ms Stefania Grasso and Mr Franco Ungaro, coordinator of the FACTORY project. Beside the 16 representatives from the Adriatic Regions of Italy, the meeting was also attended by the partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania. Serbia was represented by Mr Dragoljub Martic, director of Cultural Centre in Smederevo and Mr Vojislav Milin, coordinator of BELEF Centre.

After constituting of the technical-scientific council, it was agreed that the participants should devide into two groups: leading partner and partner, whereby the first one would have the leading role on the country, i.e. regional level. Hereby, the next steps for this one-year programme were also proposed, which would mean the coordination and steering of the project, interconnecting of the members of the project, building of an adequate infrastructure in the artistic and cultural spaces, and finally marketing and advertizing of the whole project.
