Studio Alectic (Novi Sad) & Vrelo (Ruma)

The shadow favourite of the BELEF 2007: a great concert premiere of a new face of the Serbian alternative ethno. Brave, feminine playing with the canons and prejudices on the crossroads of the traditional and urban.

Studio Alectic, a form of an electric string quartet with a femme fatale attitude, while the vocal group Vrelo, expands their guttural singing with Laibachian obsession with pioneer uniforms and scenic discipline.

VreloThe group Vrelo from Ruma, has developed in the 7 years of its existence an expression based on the motives of the Serbian traditional music and other Slavic countries, but in different and unexpected, almost pop arrangement in cooperation with Vojislav Aralica. Their performance on the BELEF comes at the time of the highlight of their European breakthrough: touring with Darko Rundek and appearance in Kusturica’s opera "Time of the Gypsies" in Paris.

The singers: Dragana Stanojević, Ivan Bizumić, Marijana Bizumić, Maja Martić, Tatjana Nikolić, Brankica Ivanković, Natasa Tomić; with the instrumental backup of Katarina Mrkšić (the percussions), Zlatko Sakulski (drums) and Stanko Tomić (bass guitar).

Studio Alectic from Novi Sad has been developing new aesthetics, visual and musical, which tries to redefine the relationship between the classical and ethno music and to question the boundaries of possibilities of the string quartet in a different ambiance. The quartet consists of: Aleksandra Berček – cello, Gabriela Benak – violin, Karmen Renčar – cello, Ivana Makevič – violin, Toni Bodonji – the percussions.

Studio AlecticAleksndra Berček: "The fact that we have graduated from the Academy is only a sign that we mastered the classical expression and started looking for a new, unique our sound. We have invented a new word for a new expression – alectic, the meaning of which we are building everyday along with the music.

Part of the repertoire, based on the traditional songs from Vojvodina, is considered by many as "Buda Bar in Vojvodina manner" certain songs (especially those with a somewhat stronger sound) are often related to "Apocalyptica" we do not deny different influences and we say that we are only four girls, who are, apart from their own personal mark, formed by the daily blows, of the music and the life in general in the country and the times we live in!
