Ever since the early days he aspired to bond the traditional and modern as the only way to save the most characteristic Portuguese instrument.

Antonio Chainho is self-taught. During the mid-sixties he performed in the A Severa Fado house and formed his group. In the seventies he started a solo career. He has performed all around the globe, solo or with Paco de Lucia and John Williams. He has also performed with singers like: Jose Carreras, Adriana Calcagnotto and Maria Bethânia. No matter where, in Italy, Brazil or Japan, Chainho has done everything to promote Portuguese guitar. Starting with "Fadinho Simples", singer Marta Dias had an exclusive position on Chainho’s recordings and the scene. Owing mostly to him, a twelve year long project of the Fado House – Guitarra Portugesa was accomplished in Portugal. It is considered that he has renewed the tradition that was neglected by others.
