Vienna Mozart Music Film Festival 2006
Film screenings in open public spaces. One of the most important cultural and political projects of the City of Vienna and its successful recipe for a glorious cultural event sets out on a journey to Central European metropolises. Vienna has been nurturing an intensive cultural exchange with the Central European cities, and the city keeps trying to promote and improve it further. In his time, Mozart was one of the artists who were travelling extensively. The world-renowned composer spent about a third of his life on the road and in the cities of Prague, Brno and Bratislava. Viennese Mozart Year 2006 (WIENER MOZARTJAHR 2006) embarks on a journey in June 2006 to visit these and other major cities. Vienna Mozart Music Film Festival 2006 will take place in nine cities in total: Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Belgrade, Warsaw, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Bucharest.
New encounters with Mozart
"We would like to invite our neighbours to experience the Vienna Mozart Music Film Festival 2006 in their cities. The Viennese Mozart Year would like to celebrate Mozart not only in Vienna but in the neighbouring regions as well, thus giving a cultural and political contribution to an exchange of thoughts and experiences. The idea is to make classical music accessible to new listeners. Vienna Mozart Music Film Festival 2006 would like to help augment joy and pleasure over Mozart’s music. The Festival may be also perceived as a project in a geopolitical space which will lead to new encounters with Mozart" says Peter Marboe, WIENER MOZARTJAHR 2006 artistic director.
Viennese successful recipe hits the road
The festival is based on the concept of the Rathausplatz Film Festival in Vienna. It was revived in 1991 as Mozart Opera Film Festival with the intention of making classical music and opera accessible to a wider public. Since then, the Rathausplatz Film Festival has become one of the best summertime open-air events in the city. The combination of top-class film screenings and numerous food stands with gastronomic delights have made this festival famous far beyond the boundaries of the City of Vienna.
Open cultural infrastructure in Central Europe
Through this project sponsored by Austrian companies, WIENER MOZARTJAHR 2006 would like to support the development of cultural infrastructure in Central Europe. The programme selection conforms to the topics and themes of the Vienna Mozart Year 2006. This international festival is meant to be a springboard for the Vienna Mozart Music Film Festival 2006 brand name.
The festival was made possible by WIENER MOZARTJAHR 2006, Wien Kultur, Erste Bank and Wiener Städtische Insurance Group.
