I am not sure as to what extent contemporary
artistic production direction can be realized due to at least
two reasons. On one side, the remains of the former regime inertia,
isolationism, pseudo-dissidence and phantasies of one’s own exclusivity
and creativity are still clearly visible, while on the other,
the production is rather modest, not only materially, but more
dangerously, ideologically. However, the reality principles primarily
affect this segment in both its planes.
The amalgamation of these two (and some other)
elements irresistibly drags the entire stage into provincialism
and small-town arguing dominated by local idioms rendering any
discourse on domestic stage not only obscure but uninteresting
outside itself.
Democratic potential of such quibbling equals
zero, thus corroborating non-conscious favouring of antiquated
models in which the domination of one or several interest groups
is more significant than any pluralism, production of cornucopia
and tolerance as opposed to diversity or the Other.
The Fuchovian “care of oneself”, or one’s own
recent production, would primarily consist of the tendency to
substitute linear and hierarchical understanding of local Modernism
history by different and unexpected clusters, thus shifting democratic
potential intensity of domestic art/culture forward.
