Confrontation, Introspection and Asking Questions
The concept of the project
The project/play is outlined as a solo dance
of a contemporary theatrical expression on the stage where a part
of the audience is also being placed.
Video projections, designed as a counter-point
make a part of the stage scenography: pornography and massmedia
on one side and the individual on the other. Costumes are created
of authentic elements, characteristic for female sexuality, resulted
from bizarre and fetish on one side, but on the other - relieved
of any sexual connotation.
The concept of the project is based on confrontation,
introspection and on asking questions. The question is what is
the female sexuality? The starting point for this question if
the phenomenon of a female sexuality, and its given, acquired
and in most cases accepted form, which became the most specific
since the moment of appearance of bizarre and fetish; the closing
point for the
issue
is the current sexual/erotic/hyper exposure in commercial and/or
political purposes. The fact is that the woman, constantly introspecting
the form of her own sexuality and in search for the ideal, has
been submitting, or not to the male fantasy. Why the woman has
accepted such a "role" and how is her sexuality being
achieved or not through the accepted image? Is the woman's main
task, looking from the aspect of the sociology to please? To what
extent the man's and woman's understanding of the sexuality coincide?
Are they willing and ableof acceptance and understanding in the
given environment of the contemporary society? How is the issue
of power closely connected to the sexuality and thus to the male-female
relation? Are sex - present in the mass media context and pornography,
not legal, but still allowed and controlled from the social point
of view but just tools for achieving the mass relief by means
of virtual practice?
As a result to the ever present alienation and
loneliness, the fear from potential emotional suffering and pain
or fear from AIDS, the individual is avoiding the possibility
but is not losing the desire to make a sexual contact. At the
same time, the sex is ever more present in the media, becoming
more aggressive, while the internet is providing a consolation
in the virtual image, offering a compensation for the real feeling.
The excitement is becoming stronger while the natural fulfillment
is being suppressed. Subjected to the immense influence going
from macro to the micro levels, the sexuality goes through changes,
deviations and deforming. By being over exposed, the threshold
of excitement is moving up and an impression is being created
that everything is available while the sexual communication itself
is becoming all the more problematic.
The project was supported by Orchestra Ballet Studio and CEMPI.
DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW, DARLING?
