ORIENTAL JAZZ
Murat Coskun, keyboards, frame drums, percussions, vocal
Annette Maye, clarinet, soprano sax
Karim Othman-Hassen, oud
Michael Bornhak, bass

about the orchestra:
SIMSIM is the Arabic word for sesame. And the "sesame"of ensemble FisFuz opens with an intiuging combination of Oriental and Occidental musical cultures.
Primarily self rendered compositions, the ensemble travels through the musical traditions of Turkey, Greece, the Arabic world and Jewish Klezmorim. At the same time they brake with all these traditions and, therefore, their songs and arrangements are reminiscent of jazz music. Ensemble FisFuz call their music "Oriental Jazz". In the same sense a critic comments: "Jazz, furnished with the most convenient and comfortable antiquities of the Orient."
The ensemble was founded in 1995. It recorded two albums "Bosphorus Fishing" and "SimSim". In 1998 this quartet won the First Prize of Audience and Jury among 500 other ensembles at the World Music Competition organized by German Radio Television SWR.
